Golden Gate Bridge
Walk or bike across from the Presidio side. Crissy Field gives the classic postcard view; Battery Spencer (Marin headlands) gives the one for your grid.
Insider: Iconic for a reason. Bring a layer — it's foggy and windy in June.
Beyond the stadium
You're not here just for 90 minutes of soccer. Here's what to do on the other 23 hours — from the Golden Gate Bridge to Napa wineries to Monterey's coast — between your 2026 FIFA World Cup matches at Levi's Stadium.
The city
Walk or bike across from the Presidio side. Crissy Field gives the classic postcard view; Battery Spencer (Marin headlands) gives the one for your grid.
Insider: Iconic for a reason. Bring a layer — it's foggy and windy in June.
Book the 'Behind the Scenes' night tour weeks ahead — it sells out. The audio tour on the main day tickets is still one of the best in the world. Can't get Alcatraz tickets? Ferry to Jack London Square in Oakland — same bay views, zero reservations.
Insider: The audio guide is narrated by former inmates and guards. Genuinely moving.
Saturday farmers market is elite. Walk south along the water to Oracle Park; walk north to Pier 39 for the sea lions (touristy, but fun).
Insider: Best single-spot introduction to SF food — oysters, sourdough, cheese, coffee.
Car-free island in the middle of the bay. Ferry from Pier 41 in SF or Tiburon across to the island; hike 5 miles around the perimeter or ~2.5 miles up to the summit for 360° views of the city, Marin, and the East Bay.
Insider: The one hike that gives you every angle of the bay at once — and zero cars, zero traffic, zero noise.
Ancient coast redwoods 30 minutes north of the Golden Gate. Reservations required to park or take the shuttle. Pro move: hike in from the Dipsea Trail at Stinson Beach — you skip the reservation system entirely and walk through redwood grove, beach, and ocean bluff on the way.
Insider: The Dipsea backdoor is one of the best hikes in California and lets you avoid booking.
A 5-mile one-way coastal hike along the Pacific cliffs at the western edge of SF, ending at the Golden Gate Bridge's south footing. Ruins of the Sutro Baths near the start; best bridge views in the city at the finish. No crowds, no car needed.
Insider: The hike every Bay Area newcomer should do once — and the best photos of SF you'll ever take.
Napa & Sonoma
Book tastings in advance — walk-ins are rare. Castello di Amorosa is the showpiece; Silverado Trail has the better reserve rooms.
Insider: Tasting rooms are limited to ~6 guests per reservation. Plan the day.
Less crowded, more relaxed than Napa. Sonoma Plaza has tasting rooms you can walk between. Healdsburg is the foodie pick.
Insider: Easier on the wallet, easier to drive, same world-class wine.
Santa Rosa brewery famous for Pliny the Elder double IPA — one of the most influential American craft beers ever made. The Windsor brewpub has the full lineup on tap. Pair with wine-country day if you’re making the drive north.
Insider: Not wine? No problem. This is the Bay Area’s craft-beer pilgrimage.
The coast
Oldest amusement park in California. The Giant Dipper wooden coaster from 1924 is on the National Historic Landmarks list.
Insider: Old-school Americana with surfers, carnival food, and the Pacific.
Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of the best on Earth. Carmel-by-the-Sea is storybook-cute — white sand beach, wine bars, art galleries.
Insider: Do both in one day with a 17-Mile Drive loop through Pebble Beach.
Pacific coastline, tide pools, and Half Moon Bay Brewing for a post-hike beer. On the drive back to SF, stop at Pacifica for Devil's Slide Trail — a former coastal highway turned pedestrian path along dramatic cliffs. Sunset here is the photo you'll post.
Insider: From the Peninsula you can be oceanside in 30 minutes. Biggest vibe-shift for the least effort.
Walkable
Theme park that literally shares the Levi's Stadium parking lot. Not Disney, but has some decent coasters, water rides, and a water park with a lazy river. Fine for a pre-match afternoon with kids.
Insider: The only thing actually at the stadium. Don't try to do a full theme-park day AND a match; pick one.
Upscale outdoor shopping street with hotels, restaurants, and bars. Best pre/post-match dinner area that isn't downtown SJ.
Insider: Walkable, lively, match-day crowds congregate at Left Bank and Pizza Antica.
World's largest collection of computing artifacts — original Apple-1, Cray-1 supercomputer, 1890 census punch cards, functional IBM PC reconstructions. Free general admission. Mountain View, off the 101 near Google's HQ.
Insider: Silicon Valley is literally next door to the stadium. This is the local pilgrimage site.
Going bigger
Three hours east of the Bay Area. Granite cliffs, waterfalls, sequoias, and some of the most photographed landscape on Earth. Peak summer is busy — reserve lodging (Curry Village, Ahwahnee) or a campground 60+ days ahead. Day-use reservations may be required; check the NPS site before you drive in.
No car? Amtrak to Merced, then the YARTS bus into the park. Note there’s no café car on the Amtrak route — pack food. It’s doable as a 2–3 day side trip from the Bay.
